Alysion Acres

A developing intentional community in SE Arizona divider

Annex

We have a conventional 4-bedroom/2-bath house in St. David, five miles from Alysion Acres. It had been rented until 2011 when the renter had a psychotic episode and did about $14k damage using a hammer. We are living here now while we fix it up and what we would like to do is rent out each room to serve as an Alysion Acres Annex. A 3-bedroom mobile home is on the back of the lot, and is also available, so we have up to six rooms at the annex, room for a small sangha of maybe 6-10 people. Going back and forth would involve carpooling or a bicycle/electric bicycle/scooter no-hills ride. One advantage of the house is hi-speed internet. The annex could also be a place to stay until an opening out at Alysion Acres becomes available.

We're putting a Koi pond in the front yard. The area between the mobile on the left (see below) and house has room for large gardens. A walking meditation labyrinth that will be garden between the paths is planned along with fruit and nut trees. A greenhouse with large water tanks under the container growing beds will allow both plant, worm, and tilapia fish production as an experimental test bed for a larger potentially ultra-high yield system.

Growing our own now is nice. In the future it may be a necessity for us and many, many others who will need to know how. The time to solve sustainability issues is now. This is a typical residental lot and so is perfect for experimental development (solar, food, rain catchment, waste issues). It may not offer 100% sustainability for 10 people, but add some wheat, rice, the occasional whatnot from the outside, and it could come close—we could get by in hard times when others just don't.
